Shirley entered into eternal life surrounded by her family on Wednesday, January 15, 2020.
Shirley was born on December 7, 1924 in Orange, Virginia, to the late James and Ella Carter Brown, and Samuel Black. She was preceded in death by brothers Earl Carter, James L. Brown and sister Dorothy Lawson.
Shirley joined Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Locust Grove, at an early age. After moving to Dorchester in 1944, she joined People's Baptist Church, where she remained a faithful member until her health forced her to relocate to Virginia.
While residing in Dorchester, she was employed by Ratheon until she retired. Shirley traveled extensively, vacationing in Bermuda, Egypt and cruised to several Caribbean Islands.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her loving sister Joyce Acors (John) whom she was residing with. Two brothers, Emmett Brown (friend Ethel) and Joseph Brown (Gloria) all of Locust Grove, VA. Shirley was also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews. A special friend Christine Henderson.
A visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 25, 2020 at Johnson Funeral Home, Locust Grove, Virginia. The funeral service will begin at 12:00 p.m. with the Reverend Sanford Reaves, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow the service at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Locust Grove, Virginia.
