There was a child, born to deaf parents on Halloween, 1938, who lived in the projects. When he got old enough, his deaf father purchased a radio for him. The radio was so he could provide sports scores to his father who ran a small bookie operation in a small, heavily Italian town in New England.
That boy was Joe Tarallo, who delivered newspapers, worked in lace and weaving factories, and worked in concrete, pouring foundations for new housing as he grew into adulthood. He became a 3-sport star athlete in high school and beyond, served his country in the US Army, serving in Vietnam as a paratrooper and as a member of the Green Beret/Special Forces. He spent a long career as a military contractor with Litton Industries before his retirement to Lake of the Woods, Locust Grove, Virginia. He was an incredible leader who had a hard-to-describe "fearlessness" about him, right up to the very end.
More importantly, he was an incredible husband, married to Patti Crouch Tarallo for over 54 years. He was an amazing father who loved and was extremely proud of Joe Jr, Rick, Sean and Megan. If possible, he loved his grandchildren (Ricky, Joe, Kristina, Kara, Jake, Alexa, Tyler and Gabby) and great grandchildren even more. He lost his battle with cancer on Dec. 5, 2019, but he will live in our hearts forever.
We will be holding a Celebration of Life on Sunday, January 19, 2020 at our home in Lake of the Woods, from 12:00 noon to 6 pm. Please call for address and directions. (540) 972-5966
