William “Bill” Glenn Herndon of Frederick, MD, passed away at the age of 93 on Sunday, June 23, 2019. Bill was born on January 7, 1926, to Agatha Elizabeth and James Thomas Herndon of Locust Grove, Virginia. After graduating from high school, Bill followed a dream and moved north to Washington, DC. He found success working for Safeway Stores as a store manager for 38 years.
Bill was a Mason, accumulating 50 years of dedicated service. Having a lifelong passion for historic cars, Bill was an active member of the Sugarloaf Mountain Antique Automobile Club of America. He was also a founding Member of the Model T Take-Apart Club. While living in Leisure World, he participated in Maryland Senior Olympic Games in Lawn Bowling and he medaled. Bill was a devoted parishioner of Salem United Methodist Church in Brookeville, Maryland, and of Christ Methodist Church in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.
Bill was preceded in death by his brothers; Ernest, Tom, Frank, and Aubrey, and one sister, Eleanor May. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Caroline Herndon of Frederick; daughters Linda (Greg) Shores of Poolesville and Debra (Jan) Paper of West Friendship; and, son: William Glenn, Jr. (Sharon) of Wake Forest, grandchildren: Lauren, Victoria, Caroline, Joshua, William, Bradley, and Taylor; great-grandchildren: Brynleigh, Hudson, and Kaelyn.
A funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Monday, July 8, 2019 at Johnson Funeral Home, Locust Grove, Virginia. Interment will follow at Laurel Hill Memorial Park, Spotsylvania, Virginia.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 9, 2019 at Country Meadows, 5955 Quinn Orchard Road, Frederick, Maryland.
