Rubert (Bob) J. Clarke, 79, passed away peacefully on February 17, 2019, at his home in Locust Grove, Virginia, after battling heart disease. His wife, Flo Clarke, was beside him in their retirement home in Lake of the Woods. Bob was born in Brooklyn, New York to Rubert and Carolyn Malloy Clarke. After serving as a United States Marine, he came back to Brooklyn, became an NYPD officer and then Detective.
Bob retired from the Force after 20 years, finished his Bachelor's Degree and became a security consultant for banks and individual clients. He worked as a Probation Officer, earned his teaching degree and taught high school history. Bob was the life of any gathering; laughing and joking with everyone. He loved reading history books on the Revolutionary War and World War II. He enjoyed traveling, playing poker, NFL football and attending plays.
Preceding Bob were his parents and his first wife, Dorothy. Bob is survived by his three daughters Susan O'Donnell (John), Eileen Koy (Tony), and Patricia Clarke. He also enjoyed his additional blended family of three sons, Stephen Burns (Stephaney), Stewart Burns (Emily), and Taylor Fontaine (Katie) and seven grandchildren.
Thank you to the wonderful people in LOWLINC, Heartland Hospice Care and friends of Lake of the Woods for helping with Bob's care.
A casual gathering will be held on Sunday, February 24 from 2:00 to 3:30 p.m. at Johnson Funeral Home, Locust Grove, Virginia. A private Memorial Service for family will be held later. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the LOW Fire and Rescue Squad.
