Robert (Bob) Cecil Payne, 78, died peacefully at his home on Thursday, March 14, 2019. He was preceded in death by his father Cecil Payne, his mother Ruth Burnett Payne, his sister Creta Delores Payne, and his loving wife of more than 54 years, Angie Lee Payne. Bob leaves behind his two daughters Robin Anderson (Ted) and Delores Dean and his four grandchildren Justin Anderson, Cory Anderson, Alexandra McCauley (Zach), and Andrew Dean, one great grandchild, Austin McCauley, and numerous other friends.
Bob was born and raised in Bradshaw, West Virginia and graduated from Iaeger High School in 1959. He spent most of adult life in Alexandria, VA where he worked for BF Goodrich and Alban Tire and in his spare time restored old Volkswagen Beetles and Mustangs. Upon retirement, he settled on his farm in Unionville, VA where he enjoyed raising and tending to his Kentucky Mountain Saddle horses, Star, Skye, and Lucy and his dogs, Shadow, Rock and Heidi. Bob, once an avid hunter, spent his evenings feeding the deer and turkey in recent years. Most summer days you could find him cutting grass, baling hay, maintaining Angie’s pool, working on or riding in his beloved Model-A, or watching old Western movies and snoozing in his recliner.
Bob was a loyal and dedicated family man who knew the value of a hard day’s work. He instilled common sense and basic life skills (driving a stick shift, shooting, hunting, fishing, car washing, knife sharpening, playing softball) in his children and grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at Roselawn Funeral Home and Cemetery (450 Courthouse Road, Princeton, WV 24740) on Wednesday, March 20, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. Lunch will immediately follow at the Outback Steakhouse (311 Greasy Ridge Road, Princeton, WV 24740).
