Elizabeth Frances Almeter Blood, 98 years young, of Locust Grove, VA (Lake of the Woods) passed into Heaven at 3:00 p.m., July 7, 2018. She was born to Frank and Eunice Almeter June15, 1920, the first of their three children, including twins Frank (Bud) and Patricia (Pat).
From a small town in southern Minnesota, “Bette” traveled extensively throughout the world. She had a happy 56 year marriage to the love of her life, Keneth E Blood, and raised five children with him.
Through the years her family inhabited many different houses, from a Quonset Hut in post WWII Japan, to converted Air force barracks in both Spokane WA and Rapid City SD, to lovely brick houses in Gerrards Cross England, Annandale VA and finally in Locust Grove. No matter the condition or location, Bette always managed to make each place into a HOME.
Leadership, loyalty, and resourcefulness were some of Bette’s outstanding qualities. She was a seamstress without parallel, a gourmet cook, a fisher woman, lover of antiques and could turn seemingly throw-away objects into useful and/or beautiful things.
Bette was predeceased by her parents, her brother Frank, her brother-in-law John Hendrickson and one child, Victoria Marie Katen.
Left behind are her sister Pat, her sister-in-law Mary Almeter, four children, Paulette, Becke, Mike and Tina, and several grandchildren, great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
A celebration of her life will take place at Lake of the Woods Church, August 10, 11:00 a.m. followed by a reception in the church fellowship hall. Internment of her ashes will be at 2:00 p.m., alongside the remains of her husband, in Culpeper National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, please feel free to make memorial donations to Hospice of the Piedmont, 1200 Sunset Lane, Ste. 2320 Culpeper, VA 22701, or Lake of the Woods Lions Club, c/o Pat Unkle, 211 Creekside Dr. Locust Grove VA 22508.
