Curtis S. Pendergrass was born and raised in Oakdale, California. Curt spent his summers driving a tractor trailer to pay his way through college. He graduated Stanford University Class of ’57 and is a member of Phi Sigma Kappa. After Stanford he joined the United States Navy where he served 26 years and retired as a Commander. It was during his service in the Navy that he met his wife Bennie Pendergrass while they were both stationed in Hawaii. After he left the navy he spent a time at the Pentagon, from there he served as the Public Information Officer for Germanna Community College.
Throughout his retirement he volunteered at Lake of the Woods TV station and participated in the Orange County Chamber of Commerce. Curtis is survived by his wife Bennie F. Pendergrass, his grandchildren SrA Ret. Britney Stajkowski, SSG Jason Stajkowski (grandson-in-law), Alexandra Hepburn and Andrew Roberson. Before his passing he was able to meet and play with his great granddaughter Madeline Stajkowski. He will be joining his two daughters Susan and Jeanne in Heaven.
A gathering will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, February 14, at Johnson Funeral Home, Locust Grove, Virginia. Inurnment will at Arlington National Cemetery with full honors at a later date.
